just remember this Old time with kids of my village ;) they are grown up and fly... one of them is joining a national Community Radio Network workshop in Lembang, Bandung, west Java...

wow it's been a year I never update this blog :-(
but there was actually a lot of interesting things happened in my life during that period of time ;-)
maybe I was too excited with facebook and off-line things hahaaaahha....

but since then, I should mark the milestones of progress we achieved and also try to learn from unexpected ones ::

facilitating the students and new modem at the kubusiar

Finally, a mobile modem (smart CDMA cellphone) connecting our 'kubusiar' hut to the world thru the web.. ;-)

Hope the students of Mahasaraswati Uni can use it for their purpose and to help the farmer group to promote their activities and products on the internet.. one step ahead on the viewture village pathway...
35 students are currently doing their field-work at our village.
They will help us with organic projects: trash separation, composting, etc.. also some small project to continue the ideas from our recent planing with the youth and ARD team. They also will teach the elementary school students during their stay for 2 months, until April 25, 2009

We had a nice welcome gathering on the KAYON community 10th anniversary on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Thanks to all youth that cook delicious simple local cuisine ;-) Thanks Eka, Dedul, nik Piluk, Ngawan, Puri, Ayux, Koming, Kenyat, Awe, cs... also to Tia who dances for the crowd..
Some friends from Aceh, Maumere also came with friends from west Bali who join the media training at IDEP foundation.


*in the morning we did photo re-shoot session at Botanical Garden. my laptop computer almost lost at a restaurant. Thanks to Don Jensen who took the note of the security chief phone number, who finally help to find back the computer. Thanks to Koming and Raka who took it back to Bedugul... thanks to the lesson...

1/1 FoR WD (Front or Rear Wheel Drive) Hybrid

The Solution for Low Carbon Path is HERE and NOW ;-)
a proposal for Bali island case, where the number of motorbike is increasing rapidly, also any other places.. to make our world cleaner ;-)

This idea could be the closest path to push the Carbon emition down.

Why?
Motorbikes are very easy to get now, and also the peoples who had own a motorbike seem hard to switch to new electric bike due to 'the weakness' of the electric bike: it slower, and can not climb the road which more than 30 degree incline.. even if it promoted only cost 900 rupiahs (less than $0.9) for 70 Km ride.
To work on the motorbikes could involve the mass partisipation on environmental awareness, since they will experience it and may can open more options to combat global problems.

The idea is to create a kit to transform the existing regular petrol fueled motorbike in hybrid-electric.
The kit will including: replacing front wheel with electric motor wheel (the size ideally follow the original size of the existing wheel), the batteries, controller, key set modification, electrical wiring modification. It sounds easy, but need a carefull set up.. and it could become a good green-business ;-)



I experimented with an old motorbike (thanks to my cousin Raka Cahyadi who voluntary give his old bike to be modified). It is a Honda from year 1974. Of course it engine-wise not as clean as the new ones, but this could be a good example on how this transformation can lift up its environmental-performance so high: on flat and sloping down roads it run nicely ;-) and sooo SILENT..... the original combustion engine only turned on when the road is going up.. So you can imagine how much petrol -which emiting carbon- can be avoided to be burn out??

The first prototype is still need to be developed. Our intention is to make one which really look 'as normal as possible'.. The next prototype will be on a new matic type. The next volunteer would be my brother ;-)

So, if it works for an old stuff, it must be will works better for the newer ones...

GOING GREENER turn Hybrid ;-)

Yesterday morning, after placing the solar panel up to the roof with my cousin Raka Cahyadi, and we had a chat and brain storming... around 11 o'clock I come up with the HYBRID motor idea.
"We need a third way solution..." the gray in the 'poleng sudamala' ;-)

FYI: Poleng is black and white tiled squares/checkboard design symbolizing duality. Usually used to dress statues in Bali. Considered sacred.. The Poleng Sudamala is the black-grey-white design of woven fabric. the gray is the mix of black and white threads> symbolizing Human, the mix of God's and Bhutakala characters.. something between two extremes..

the idea is to encourage more peoples could involve in going greener lifestyle.
Motorbikes are in tremendous incline recently in Bali.
You may know that in year 1904 were only 2 push-bikes in Singaraja, north Bali. Currently more than 2 millions motor bikes flocking on this tiny island...

Only peoples with a good environmental-awareness will had stronger reason to choose electric motorbike for their daily transportation mode.. the rest are mainly decided to use what they 'want' because they can buy it or they can use financing scheme to get one. Mainly they choose the one with new design, run faster... as the commercials told them...

The electric bike, even thou it can be bought thru credit scheme, its sales recently only reached about 700 units.. far under the regular ones..

To promote the Less Carbon Lifestyle, then I think we need to do something 'in between' with an effective result and efficient budget.

I think about to make a kit to turn an existing regular motorbike into an hybrid motor.
It runs in electric mode for flat and smooth road.. and still can use its regular engine on harder situation.. Can you imagine how 'low' it can goes?? if a city roads are mostly flat, it will runs silently like the electric bike use to be.. hence, at the traffic light area where usually engines run in idle -which produce higher pollutant- the hybrid bike will just silent ;-) no emission at all..

tiny-hydro at Beji Dalem, Geluntung viewture village

It's another small thing designed and experimented in my small village.
It came from an 'old' idea too.
Thanks to all friends that helped me to try it for almost a week..

The idea behind is to use the water from the water-spring at a sacred place in my village which is actually quite small and only has 1 meter drop range.. and with a low cost devices.
Hence we can make more of its kind in several places in our village.

It's a good example for peoples of how to change the 'potential energy' in water movement and gravity into electricity, as we know the 3 basic energy of the universe are: Electricity-Magnet-Gravity using what we 'have'...



Finally, using a submersible DC pump which by some trial-and-error on coil and propeller design we come up with a small but fit the need 'tiny-hydro' dynamo.



Peoples usually ask: how many Watts it can generates?
I measured it is about 5Volts/2 Watts perhour.

It charged dry-cells battery to power superbright LEDs lamp.
We will added several battery as 'electricity saving box' to power lamps on the periodic ceremony at the Beji (holy-water spring) Temple, every 6 months. And several occasion on special days..



On daily basis it will light up the pancuran/bathing place and the path to the village.


Thanks to pak Wayan Rupi and his boys (Putu Liong, and the twin: Kadek Sepug and Koming Toris) who had helped me with mechanical works, cleaning-up the place, fixing stepping stone, etc.
Also another villagers who triggered to clean-up the place too.



Later we plan to make a hot water tub for our 'Kampoeng Spa' ;-)

moffice since 2001

Hi there ;-)

Sorry, again, it's been too long not to update my blog :-(
Since there's a lot of request from friends to see my 'moffice' photos, I will upload some of it.
The 'moffice' idea was began at least from year 2001. It was materialized on December 2001 after I draw a focus drawing. With a kind help of "Bayem" Eka Putra, a friend of mine and my little bro, I was able to pay the down payment for the right veedub that I saw by chance aside the street.
I put the moffice sign on the windshield since then..

The idea was to use it as my mobile work-station, loaded with gatgets powered by sun-energy: laptop, printer/scanner, internet connection, fax, etc.

there's some reasons why I decided to live with this idea:
- it is an old but cool stuff, produced in 1973, hence I don't add new vehicle for my tiny island
- it has a warm friendship feeling between veedub owners/hobbyist/mechanics
- it spacey, big enough to work in, and to sleep in too sometime


After I decided to repaint it in 2007, it was not being used quite a while..
Oct 2008, it restarts the new spirit ;-)
I put electric 'mirror' using cctv cam -tv and vga monitor at the same time- from my idea since 1988. thing takes time to be materialized... (the plan was to put 4 cctv cams to cover different views and to record the journey if necessary)




I try to get a neo-retro look by decreasing some 'lines' on the body, and put 'one-piece glass' for windows.
I keep the bamboo seats made by Putu Witsen (recently known as Mepantigan martial sport) the former owner, and change the wall cover using black bamboo... I change the dashboard instrument setting and put the lcd screen, and MP3 player for intertainment...

To accommodate my mobile-living style, I put shower on the rear door, and add water tank.
The water absorbing the heat of the engine to provide warm water..




It equipped with electric water heater for tea or coffee, and juicer too ;-)

hmmmm finally it uploaded ;-) take so long time...
